Library fun!
We would like to give a HUGE shout out to Brooke
Green. We approached Brooke a few weeks ago about helping us adjust the
Life Skills related arts schedule, to add Library. Without hesitation
Brooke fit us into her schedule at West and jumped right in, with both
feet, creating fun and interactive activities.
"Brooke Green has gone above and beyond creating
high interest lessons for our class every Wednesday in the library. She has
read books, lead songs and dances, allowed students to play musical
instruments, and even created fun sensory activities for the students! Ms.
Guard gave Brooke the list of the weekly themes in the Life Skills classroom
and Brooke has tied her activities to the classroom theme. For example this
week students are learning about space, so Mrs. Green created sensory water
bottles with colorful water, glitter, and stars to shake up! She also had
"moon dust" for the students to squish through their fingers. She has
done a wonderful job and we are so happy that the students get to try some new
things!"

Space week
Phases of the moon
Students did an art project on phases of the moon. We used OREO COOKIES- very motivating! :) They cut slices of the oreo out and drew what it looked like on their paper.
They also used gold stars on black pieces of paper to make their own constellations. We talked about how stars often make shapes in the sky, so they used a piece of chalk to connect the stars.

Dinosaurs
Dinosaur Week
The students have had fun learning about dinosaurs this week. We have read stories during literacy, looked at a PowerPoint discussing meat eaters and plant eaters, played a dino memory game, took a dino true/false quiz, and made sparkly paper plate dinosaur crafts.
We read a book called, Mine-O-Saur that talked about a dinosaur that wasn't sharing.

PE- At the playground
PE
At the Playground
Mrs. Comer does such a nice job of planning PE activities that the students enjoy. While it has been warm outside, they have been playing at the park. When it gets colder they will have a PE schedule of activities throughout the week that they do in the gym.
