TBT to Halloween

TBT "Throw Back Thursday" to Halloween!
I know Halloween was some time ago, but I found these pictures I had taken and wanted to share them! We had a fun Halloween party with games and treats! We also decorated pumpkins from our pumpkin patch field trip. Enjoy!

My lovely assistants dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 and I was Cat in the Hat. I can't say enough good things about Jill and Denise. They are so helpful and great with the kids!
Here is our class pumpkin, painted white and purple (Bulldog colors) chevron.

This picture was taken at our pumpkin patch field trip, always a good time!

ONTO THE PARTY GAMES!

Mystery Reader!
"Miss M." or Miss Marendt, our school psychologist, was our mystery reader on Monday. She read the book Stephanie's Ponytail. It is a great book about how other people were making fun of Stephanie at first and then decided to copy her. We learned to not care what other people think of us and to be ourselves. :) Thanks Ali!

Healthy eating week!

Healthy Eating
This week in social skills we talked about healthy vs. unhealthy foods. The students had to put pictures of different foods into healthy/unhealthy categories. They also learned about the four food groups:
  • Fruits/vegetables
  • Dairy
  • Grains
  • Protein
We did an activity where each student had 4-5 cards each. They had to come up and categorize their food picture or word into the correct food group.
To put the food groups into practice, the students then had their own worksheet where they cut and glued pictures into the correct groups.
Everyday this week during snack, I served my students healthy snacks.
  • Tuesday- grapes
  • Wednesday- carrots
  • Thursday- apple slices and peanut butter
*I asked them to try it even if they didn't like it. I had a student who didn't like carrots try a bite. I was so happy he at least tried! Then I saw him stand up 5 minutes later and spit out the bite into a tissue. It was so funny!

Superhero theme

Superhero Week!

This week, we talked about superheros and the different powers that they have. We have been focusing on handwriting, so the students came up with a list of superheros and wrote their names with their best handwriting. I modeled each letter on the board as the students helped me sound out the words and spell.

On Thursdays, we do themed stations where the students are in groups and rotate around. In one of the stations this week, the students had to identify which superhero was different and put several pictures in size order. (Found from www.123homeschool4me.com)
Everyday during literacy, I read books based on the theme of the week. This week, it has all been about Superheros! I always give the students an opportunity to choose the book we read. Giving choices are always good for students with special needs.

Mystery Reader

Yesterday, we had a mystery reader! It was my younger sister, Kathryn! Kathryn is a sophomore at Purdue studying Spanish and she has a passion for languages and traveling.
